Yorkshire, with more square miles of National Park than any other English region, is a big, bold, and beautiful part of England. It's easy to walk, ride or drive through the rolling green dales, rocky highlands, lush green woods and lovely wide open spaces but what better way could there be than to enjoy these scenes from the comfort of a heritage railway carriage.
Our first excursion is on the Wensleydale Railway. The 17 mile trip takes approximately 50 minutes. On its way from the flat Vale of York to the upland splendour of the famous Yorkshire Dales, the line passes through market towns and small villages, through woodlands and farmland. Leaving the train at Redmire we journey on to The Black Sheep Brewery at Masham.
Our second excursion is on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The 18-mile line runs through the beautiful North York Moors National Park, between the market town of Pickering and the village of Grosmont. The line passes though the station at Goathland, known as Aidensfield in YTV’s Heartbeat and as the bewitching Hogsmeade in the first Harry Potter Film. We leave the train at Grosmont and continue on to Harrogate where there will be some free time
